When I was a junior in high school looking at college options, I was focused on art schools. I was tired of academics. I wanted to make things. I had a list of schools like Pratt, and Alfred, and Emerson. One of the themes that came out of that exploration, and talking with advisors was that if I wanted to make media, I needed to have a point of view. I needed something to talk about.
Their advice was to attend a traditional college, get some life experience, and then come back to do the specialized technical training in graduate studies.
20 years later, this advice has stuck with me.
That’s why I begin all of my client relationships by learning, “Who is this person?”. What are we taking pictures of? What is the story we are telling together?
Life is a collection of stories, and you are about to tell one of them. What defines it?
