The funny thing about babies is that they kind of experience each season for the first time multiple times. For example, my son’s first summer he was 6-9 months old. He was sitting in the grass and trying to learn to crawl. He was putting every wood chip, pine cone, and piece of trash he could reach into his mouth. And then after another fall and winter he had his second “first” summer as a toddler who could run around, jump off of things, go down the slide, and pick berries for himself.
With each season there are new experiences and with those come all the feelings. Sometimes it’s the smallest things that make your heart melt when you look back on them. I was lucky enough to photograph baby Victoria on one of the beautiful summery days we’ve had this year and I wanted to share an example of what I’m talking about. The little things that make up our lives.
- Baby Firsts: Standing outside with bare feet!
- Baby Firsts: She loves being carried on Daddy’s shoulders!
- Baby First: Being tossed in the air by mom on a warm, bright, sunny day.
- Baby First: Touching bare toes to a pond outside.
- Baby First: Seeing the rhododendron bushes in bloom.
- Baby First: Dad carries her across a pond stepping carefully from stone to stone.
These photos are stunning. Firsts are hard to capture when living in moment.
Aw, thank you Lilly! Memory is fickle… I love capturing these things because they’re so hard to remember in detail later on. In the moment it seems impossible that you would forget when your baby took their first steps, but even a year down the road it starts to get muddled if you don’t document it in some way. <3
